Why is an item ';for sale'; but not ';for sell';? ?

If a seller is a person selling an item, why do we say the item is for sale? I know that ';for sale'; is considered the correct way to write it, but I don't understand why. Why is an item ';for sale'; but not ';for sell';? ?
Dear friend:

As you know sale's a noun and sell is a verb, and for is a preposition. Grammatically speaking preposition is a word that is used before a NOUN, PRONOUN, or GERUND to show place, time, direction etc. In the phrase ';a tree in the park,'; ';in'; is a preposition. And we know that a preposition cannot be used before a verb.

Again. as you know seller is someone who sells something to which we refer with a noun and not a verb.

So the proper form of referring to the thing which is being sold is by using the noun form of the verb ';sell';, which is ';sale'; with the right preposition that is ';for'; and also you can check it (for sale) in any dictionary to be sure.

hope to be sound,Why is an item ';for sale'; but not ';for sell';? ?
also in addition to the first answer:

sell is past tense.. if most see that they won't inquire!

trust me, i know this through experience... never joke about things when you are in the case and point of being a seller of any item.

sale is the best advertising ever... that word has so much power.

put up a big white sign with a giant RED ';sale'; on it and watch them come!
Simply put, sell is a verb. Sale is a noun.

You can't sale a dog, you sell a dog.

You can't have a sell for some clothing; you have a SALE.

Also, SELLER is a noun of the person SELLING an item that is FOR SALE.
For one sale is a noun and sale means it's being ';sailed'; XD and sell means right now. I remember my teacher taught me but I forgot.
